Admissions Overview DE Montfort University
Main Intakes at De Montfort University (DMU), Leicester
De Montfort University sticks to a very predictable and student-friendly intake pattern that works brilliantly for Indian applicants. September is the biggest intake by far – every single undergraduate and postgraduate course starts in September, the Leicester campus fills up, and that’s when DMU releases the maximum number of scholarships (including the ₹5–8 lakh International Scholarship for 60 % plus students).
January intake is almost as strong; nearly 95 % of master’s programmes (especially Art & Design, Business, Computing, Engineering, Pharmacy, and Fashion) plus a good chunk of undergraduate top-up degrees open seats in January.
A smaller May intake runs for selected postgraduate courses only – mainly MBA, MSc Management, MSc Data Analytics, MSc Project Management, and a few others.
Because of the strong January and limited May options, DMU stays a favourite among counsellors in Ahmedabad, Surat, Chandigarh, and Jaipur for students who finish their Indian graduation in May-June and still want to join the same year.
How Admission at De Montfort University Actually Works
Everything is direct and super quick – applications go straight through the DMU online portal (no UCAS for international students), and decisions usually come within 3–7 working days. Here’s what Overseas Education Consultants see on a daily basis:
Undergraduate entry: 65-75 % in Class 12 (CBSE/ISC/state boards all accepted), IELTS 6.0 (5.5 each) or PTE 51+. Lower marks can go through the International Foundation or the International Year One.
Master’s entry: a three-year Indian bachelor’s with 55 % and above is enough for most courses; even 50–55 % gets accepted if the university is recognised and the student has 1-2 years of work experience.
Standard document checklist Overseas Education Consultants submit:
- 10th and 12th mark sheets
- All semester mark sheets + degree/provisional certificate
- IELTS/PTE/Duolingo (DMU accepts Duolingo 95–105 now)
- Passport copy
- Simple 300 - 400 word personal statement
- One reference letter (academic or employer)
- Updated CV
- Portfolio compulsory for Art, Design, Fashion, Footwear, Architecture, and Media Production courses (20–25 pieces with explanation)
Interviews: only for Pharmacy, Nursing, Social Work, and some Art & Design courses – short 10–15 minute online chats.
Deposit & CAS: £3,000–£5,000 advance deposit (goes toward tuition), CAS issued within 2–5 working days after payment.
Because DMU is in Leicester (not London), living costs are lower, part-time work is easier to find, and the visa refusal rate for Indian students has stayed under 3-4 % in the last couple of years.
That’s exactly why many experienced Overseas Education Consultants keep De Montfort University as the safest “mid-tier but high visa success” option for average academic profiles who still want a proper UK degree with two-year post-study work visa.
